Residents south and east of Calgary are cleaning up after two powerful and dangerous storm cells moved through our province.

Environment Canada has confirmed a tornado did touch down near Vulcan.

It began around 5 o'clock Tuesday afternoon.

The system spawned heavy rain, hail and a Category F-1 tornado which touched down four and a half kilometres northeast of Vulcan.

Terry Schierman's farm sustained damage. The twister ripped out two of his steel grain bins that were reinforced in concrete.

He saw the storm heading to this home and he drove as quickly as he could to secure his equipment and make sure his family was inside.

He had no idea the damage the twister left in its path until his son told him.

The second storm cell moved through the Taber area.

It uprooted trees, overturned mobile homes and damaged buildings including an airport hangar.

There are also reports a twister touched down in Seven Persons.
